Discover one of Rome's most historic and picturesque neighborhoods, the Jewish Ghetto. Walk through the ghetto and learn about its fascinating history and visit key Jewish sites, including: the synagogue, the Museo Ebraico, and the Teatro di Marcello (a.k.a "The Jewish Colosseum"), an authentic hidden gem of Ancient Roman architecture. One of the best know dishes of Roman cuisine is Carciofi alla Giudia, or Roman-Jewish fried artichokes, that originated in the Jewish Ghetto of Rome. Artichoke season in Rome begins in November but really kicks up in February when the mammole, or Romanesco (globe) artichokes finally come into season.
Explore this popular district that sits across the River Tiber from central Rome's historic center. With it's narrow cobblestone streets and piazzas, it retains a medieval feel. The Trastevere District is popular for its restaurants, cafes, boutiques and nightclubs attracting a young crowd who congregate around the fountain in the Piazza di Santa Maria.
