Itinerary

Cape Town Central

On our way east from Cape Town. We will travel through some of Cape Town and South Africa's most famous townships on our way to the wine country. The first one Langa, is the oldest township in South Africa dating back to 1823. Compared to other squatter-like townships in South Africa, Langa is well developed and has seen the local economy here grow from strength to strength over the years. Some of the new notable industries here include ceramic manufacturing, traditional South African Bistros as well as filming. Safe house by Denzell Washington is one of the most famous movies that were filmed here. About 50 -60 minutes Drive to the first wine Delaire Graff Estate, Helshoogte Rd.

Groot Drakenstein Prison

Nelson Mandela spent the last 14 months of his lengthy political imprisonment at Drakenstein Prison, formerly known as Victor Verster. Mandela described the prison as a "gilded cage," where he was confined to luxurious quarters rather than a cell. He had access to multiple bedrooms, a swimming pool, personal chef, and views of the breathtaking Drakenstein Mountains, but remained imprisoned despite the comfortable conditions. This period at Drakenstein marked the end of Mandela's incarceration, before he finally emerged as a free man in February 1990 after decades of struggle.

Franschhoek

Stop in Franschhoek Town, whose name translates to "French Corner" in English, for lunch. Franschhoek is one of South Africa's oldest towns, with centuries-old vineyards and Cape Dutch architecture. Known as the heart of food and wine in the country, Franschhoek is nestled in one of the world's most beautiful wine valleys. At the end of the main road sits the 17th and 18th century Huguenot Monument, honoring the French settlers who came here. We'll have 1 hour for lunch before continuing to our final wine estate.
