Badia a Passignano is an ancient village located in the heart of Chianti Classico, in the municipality of Barberino Tavarnelle, in the province of Florence. Its focal point is the Abbey of San Michele Arcangelo a Passignano, founded in 395 AD. This Benedictine monastery, still active and managed by the Vallombrosian Order, is known for its church with frescoes by Domenico Cresti, known as Il Passignano, and for the crypt that houses the tomb of the founder of the order, St. John Gualberto. The village also features picturesque streets, a historic tower-house, and the Church of San Biagio. Surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, it is famous for its Chianti Classico Gran Selezione wine, produced at the Antinori winery. The panoramic location of the village offers breathtaking views of the surrounding Tuscan landscape.
