Bayon Temple, located in the heart of Angkor Thom in Cambodia, is one of the most iconic and richly decorated temples in the Angkor complex. Built at the end of the 12th century by King Jayavarman VII, it is best known for its mysterious and serene stone faces as well as its detailed bas-reliefs The gigantic stone faces** The most striking feature of Bayon Temple is the multitude of massive faces carved into its towers. There are more than 200, each with a sweet smile and closed eyes, supposed to represent Avalokiteshvara (the Bodhisattva of Compassion) or a resemblance to the king himself.
