Itinerary

Morioka Hachimangu

Morioka Hachimangū is a Shinto shrine in the city of Morioka, Iwate in northern Japan. The shrine is noted for its annual festival on the second Saturday in June, which is famous for the Chagu Chagu Umakko, a horse parade which was recognized in 1978 as an Intangible Folk Cultural Property.

Morioka Castle Ruins

One of the main tourist attractions in the city is Morioka Castle Ruins Park, the grounds where Morioka Castle once stood. The castle was demolished in 1874 and left to waste. However, in 1906 the site was cleaned up and renamed Iwate Park. It is a popular recreation area for the locals and a popular cherry blossom spot.

Hoonji Temple

Hōon-ji is a Sōtō Zen Buddhist temple located in the city of Morioka, Iwate Prefecture, Japan. Its main image is a statue of Shaka Nyōrai, although the temple is more famous for its statues of the 500 Rakan.
