Step into the peaceful countryside of Yamashina, Kyoto—once a key crossroads known for its fertile soil and pure water. Begin with a guided tour of the historic Chino family farmhouse, a Kyoto City Cultural Landscape. Admire its open-beam ceilings, smoke vents, and wood-fired hearth while learning about the home’s history and farming tools. Then, head to the fields for a hands-on activity: harvest seasonal vegetables like cucumbers or basil, or help with seeding or weeding—no experience needed. After a short break, you may receive a small bundle of your harvest or a seasonal gift. Finally, enjoy a nourishing breakfast made with farm-fresh vegetables and rice grown on-site. Simmered dishes in savory broth with tea or coffee bring a flavorful close to your countryside morning.
