Horton Plains is a national park in the central highlands of Sri Lanka in an elevation of 2100-2300m (6900-7500ft) and encompasses montane grassland and cloud forest. It is rich in biodiversity and many species found here are endemic to the region. This is also a popular tourist destination. You will enjoy 2-3 hours of walk to experience all these beauties. The Horton plains are the head waters of three major Sri Lankan rivers; the Mahaweli, Kelani and Walawe. The plains' vegetation is grasslands interspersed with montane forests and includes many endemic woody plants.
Large herds of Sri Lankan sambar deer feature as typical mammals and the park is also as important for many species of birds not only endemic to Sri Lanka but restricted to Horton plains. The sheer precipice of world's end and Baker's falls are among the tourist attractions of the park.
