In 1901, the great fire of Jacksonville quickly swept through the area and destroyed our downtown. Thankfully architects from around the world heard about our plight and came to help us design our buildings. On this wonderful tour, you will also experience several memorials and the oldest living thing in our city, the great Treaty Oak. The Main Street Bridge, officially the John T. Alsop Jr. Bridge, is a bridge crossing the St. Johns River in Jacksonville, Florida. It was the second bridge built across the river. It carries four lanes of traffic, and is signed as US 1/US 90. A lift bridge, it opened in July 1941 at a cost of $1.5 million
The Veterans Memorial Wall is located at 1145 East Adams Street, adjacent to the Jacksonville Municipal Stadium in downtown Jacksonville, Florida. The quarter-million dollar monument was dedicated in November, 1995 and serves as a tribute to more than 1,500 Jacksonville area American war heroes.
This includes the Jacksonville Fallen Police Memorial. This extremely touching memorial is dedicated to those who have fallen in the line of duty since records have been kept in Jacksonville, Florida.
