We are a team of two young biologists. Miguel is from São Jorge Island and Rita is from Alentejo. Both of us love being out on the ocean and our goal is to make a living from these tours and writing scientific papers. We appreciate you booking with us, and we can repay you by taking you into the wonders of the Ocean i grew up to and fell in love with! Seeing wild whales and dolphins really makes us so happy that we promise you will be as excited before stepping foot aboard. Also, we are recently doing this tour mostly in uncharted territory, meaning that no other boats will be around us for most part of our trips!
After the safety briefing we'll talk about species that use the Azores in any way possible, differences between resident animals, migratory and occasional, and then set towards the sea. We work with wild animals, and there is something that you must be aware, which is that we do not control, feed, train or tag any animal. We are searching for any group or individual whale/dolphin that is passing close by and there is a chance that no cetacean is nearby. In that case, our crew will give you a solution, so don't worry too much :D. Before and during our tour, we have a lookout, and this consists on being with powerful binoculars, on a high place, scouting for any signs of wildlife. Our chances of being succesfull are quite good! When we are travelling and we find something on the ocean we will approach to collect and observe. Our crew are marine biologists and curious towards everything in the Ocean, ask as much you want. There are no dumb questions!!! Coming back to Velas after our time is done, we will do the after tour recap, showing and answering all questions and informations about the experience we just had. See you soon!
You will make your own way to the meeting points
Look for the blue wooden booth in the marina. The name of our boat is "Casteletes". Ask us about it! State your name and group size. Enjoy your tour.
