Ría Lagartos is a small fishing village that in 1979 was declared a Wildlife Refuge Area, in May 1999 it acquired the category of Biosphere Reserve. Its beaches were decreed on July 16, 2002 as a Protected Natural Area with the category of Sanctuary. In this beautiful place you can take a boat ride where you will observe the beautiful mangroves, crocodiles, herons, pelicans and flamingos, you can also take a Mayan bath clay-based that serves as an exfoliator for the skin. The cost of the boat tour is not included
To continue with the tour we will visit the pink lake or lagoon of "Las Coloradas". The water and the surrounding environment are incredibly salty, attracting brine shrimp, plankton, and red algae. As the water evaporates in the sunlight, these organisms become more concentrated and eventually create the famous bright pink water. Because the salt we consume is processed there, it is forbidden to enter the water but you can take a tour around the lake and take incredible pictures.
Ek Balam ruin is one of the tallest in the area, standing at 95 feet tall where you can climb to the highest point of the ruins, which will take you high above the treetops and give you a stunning view of the peninsula.
