The hotel was built in 1892-1893 for the Canadian Pacific Railway and was originally called the Hôtel Frontenac. It was designed by Bruce Price in the château style, which is a mix of Gothic Revival and French Renaissance styles. Château Frontenac has 610 rooms and suites, all with views of the city or the St. Lawrence River. The hotel also has several restaurants, bars and shops. Château Frontenac has hosted many famous guests over the years, including Charles Lindbergh, Winston Churchill, and Eleanor Roosevelt. It was also the site of the two Quebec Conferences in 1943 and 1944, where the Allies discussed strategies for World War II.
The terrace was built in 1838 and was originally intended for private use by the Governor General of Canada. However, it was opened to the public in 1879 and has been a popular place for visitors ever since. The terrace is a great place to take a walk, have a picnic or just relax and enjoy the views. There are also several restaurants and shops located along the terrace. In winter, the terrace is transformed into a skating rink. This is a popular activity for both locals and tourists.
The square is home to several historic buildings, including the Notre-Dame-des-Victoires church, the Château Frontenac hotel, and the Museum of Civilization. It is also a popular tourist destination and is known for its cobbled streets and charming shops and restaurants. Place Royale is a great place to walk around and soak up the atmosphere of Old Quebec City. It is also a good place to visit if you are interested in learning about the history of the city.
