This is a new hike, also included in the coming Jubilee Year 2025. In this tour we include a guided tour, to visit the Benedictine Abbey built in the year 1011. You will learn the history about the foundation of the Abbey, and later of the town of Cava de' Tirreni (SA). You will walk on the path that thousand of pilgrims used to walk on, as a sign of Christian devotion. It is, also, hiking to the Amalfi Coast, in fact we will have views of the Coast, towns and villages of Vietri sul mare, Raito, Cetara, Maiori, and Ravello; the volcano Vesuvius, and the Lattari Mountains. Meet wild horses, goats & sheep roaming freely on the path, with chances to admire peregrine falcons flying over your heads. The hike is classified as E, MODERATE. We will walk a total distance of 12 km ( 7 miles). You need to wear hiking shoes, and we suggest to bring at least one walking stick to use whilst hiking.
We will have 1-hour guided tour of the Benedictine Abbey, built in the year 1011. We will visit: - The Basilica, the Chapel & the Grotto of S. Alferio - The Old Chapels from XI century - The Romanic Cloister, with the Nativity & Sarcophagi - The Cript from the XII century - The Longobards' Cemetery - The Chapel of S. German - The Museum - The Chapter Room with the Maiolica Floor
This is the final destination of the hike. We will visit the grotto, where the shepherd had the vision of Our Holy Lady, and told him to built a Church. From the Sanctuary there's an amazing panorama over the Amalfi Coast and the Lattari Mountains.
