Xunantunich is a site of importance, containing four main Plazas, to which the “El Castillo”, Structure A-6 stands tall at some 130 feet, burials revealing many sacred artifacts. Exposed are two bands of Frieze that today are located on the final stages of the construction depicting many things related to Maya mythology. Latest findings such as the first and largest tomb to date, "with hieroglyphics tells a royal story" of a woman, related to the Ruler of Caracol. The journey begins at the Ferry, crossing the Mopan River, and a drive uphill to the parking area, after which the guest(s) will trek uphill to the Plaza on a guided tour. Hear interesting facts about the "El Castillo"- A-6, that stands approximately 130 feet tall, burials that revealed many sacred artifacts, and the famous Friezes and their interpretations will be shared. The view atop A-6 reveals a panoramic view of the area, overlooking the bordering department of Melchor de Menchos, Guatemala, and the canopy of the highland broadleaf forest for miles in the distance. The adventure winds down with lunch at a local restaurant, where local food and drinks are served. Return journey begins immediately to end the day.
