The most reliable information on the port history of Valparaíso dates from 1810, years in which the city was made up of two villages (Almendral and El Puerto) separated by the Cape. In the vicinity of the Cape, a wealthy merchant had built a dock called "Villaurrutia", in front of the Cueva del Chivato where today the building of the newspaper "El Mercurio de Valparaíso" is located.
Plaza Sotomayor
Plaza Sotomayor is a square in Valparaíso, Chile. It is named after Rafael Sotomayor. The square is lined with buildings that take up entire block fronts of the streets that flank it.
Cerro Alegre
Cerro Alegre is a neighborhood in the city of Valparaíso, Chile and is located on the political and financial center of the city. Its name is due to the beautiful gardens that adorned the houses in the sector, which in the 19th century was inhabited mainly by English immigrants.
