Stockholm Old Town
The history of Stockholm, capital of Sweden, for many centuries coincided with the development of what is today known as Gamla stan, the Stockholm Old Town.
The City Hall. Stockholm City Hall, with its spire featuring the golden Three Crowns, is one of the most famous silhouettes in Stockholm. It is one of the country's leading examples of national romanticism in architecture. The City Hall was designed by the architect Ragnar Östberg is built from eight million bricks.
When the palace was first built, in the 18th century, it created a stir in Europe, and today it is considered to be one of the emblematic buildings of the Baroque era. The older Tre Kronor Palace was consumed by flames in a fire that broke out in May 1697.
