Sinheungsa Temple was founded by Master Jajang during the reign of Queen Jindeok of Silla and was initially called Hyangseongsa Temple. It was initially built on the site of the Kensington Hotel, but after being destroyed by several fires, it was rebuilt in its current location during the reign of King Injo of the Joseon Dynasty. There is an anecdote that during the reconstruction, three monks, Yeongseo, Hyewon, and Yeongok, had the same dream in which a white-haired god appeared and took over the temple site, so they rebuilt the temple below the old site and named it Sinheungsa Temple. Sinheungsa Temple also operates a temple stay where you can experience and learn about Buddhist traditions and culture.
Towangseong Falls cascades down three tiers totaling 320 meters: 150 meters at the upper part, 80 meters at the middle part, and 90 meters at the lower part, making it the longest continuous waterfall in South Korea. The sight of the waterfall amidst the rocky cliffs surrounding Seoraksan resembles a celestial maiden spreading white silk on the rocks, creating a breathtakingly beautiful scene. During winter, the ice walls of this waterfall are known as the largest in South Korea, attracting mountaineers for ice climbing training.
