The Rupe path is an alternative to the classic route that leads to the historic center of San Marino passing through the iconic three towers, the Montale, the Fratta and the Cesta. This path allows you to walk inside the forest that surrounds the city, in true nature, while also being able to enjoy breathtaking views and views. Starting from Piazza Grande in Borgo Maggiore, the path develops along the half height of Monte Titano, along the entire front of the cliff, skirting the imposing rock walls and passing through the natural terraces, open towards the Adriatic Sea. This route ends along the ancient road connecting the city and the village, the Costa dell'Arnella.
Departure from Piazza Grande in Borgo Maggiore and in a few minutes you find yourself completely immersed in the forest of Monte Titano
Third Tower – Montale The Third Tower called del Montale dates back to the end of the 13th century. It is the "smallest" in size, but it has played a strategic role for the defense: it is in fact placed in the best position for the lookout. Second Tower – Fratta On the second peak of Monte Titano, the highest, at 756 meters high, there is the Castello della Cesta, also known as Fratta. Built at the end of the 11th century, also with a pentagonal plan, the Second Tower was the headquarters of the guardhouse and also housed some prison cells. First Tower – Rocca Guaita Built directly on the stone of the mountain without any foundation, the First Tower, with a pentagonal base, dates back to the 11th century and is among the oldest fortresses in Italy. It is also called "Rocca" or "Guaita" which in San Marino dialect means "to keep watch".
The city of San Marino (called San Marino or City by the San Marino people) is perched on top of Mount Titano and surpasses all others in height above sea level (more than 700 metres). Its village is none other than the historic center of San Marino, i.e. the oldest residential nucleus. The institutional headquarters of the Government (Palazzo Pubblico), the Great and General Council and the secretariats of State are located here
