The Masjid e Jahan Numa commonly known as the Jama Masjid of Delhi, is one of the largest mosques in India. The great mosque of Old Delhi is the final architectural extravagance of the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan with a courtyard capable of holding 25,000 devotees. It was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan between 1650 and 1656 at a cost of one million rupees, and was inaugurated by Imam Syed Abdul Ghafoor Shah Bukhari from Bukhara. Fatehpuri Masjid was built in 1650 by Fatehpuri Begum, one of Shah Jahan’s wives. Situated at the western end of Chandni Chowk in Delhi, Fatehpuri Masjid is a 17th century mosque named after the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan’s wife- Fatehpuri Begum. Buland Darwaza (Victory Gate) having a height of 54 m leads to the main entrance of the mosque.
Shri Digambar Jain Lal Mandir is the best known and oldest Jain temple in Delhi. It is directly across from the Red Fort in the historical Chandni Chowk and old delhi area. The temple is known for an avian veterinary hospital, called the Jain Birds Hospital, in a second building behind the main temple. A Jain temple or Derasar is the place of worship for Jains, the followers of Jainism.
