Aswan High Dam

The Aswan High Dam, or more specifically since the 1960s, the Aswan High Dam, is one of the world's largest embankment dams, which was built across the Nile in Egypt. With a reservoir capacity of 132km³, the Aswan High Dam provides water for around 33,600km² of irrigation land. It serves the irrigation needs of both Egypt and Sudan, controlling the Nile floods, generating hydropower, and providing water for domestic and industrial use. The Aswan High Dam brought the Nile's devastating floods to an end, reclaimed more than 100,000 acres of desert land for cultivation, and made additional crops and fish farming possible. In addition, it helped increase the water supply to Egypt's major cities, including Cairo and Alexandria.

Unfinished Obelisk

The Unfinished Obelisk is located in Aswan, Egypt, and is one of the most important archaeological finds in Egypt. It is an enormous granite shaft that was never completed due to a crack in the granite. The obelisk was believed to be the heaviest single stone monument the Egyptians ever created and was intended to be the largest obelisk ever made. The quarry in which it was found is still visible today, and visitors can explore the area and try to imagine the process of how such an impressive monument could have been created. Numerous theories have been put forth about how the obelisk was manufactured and transported, but the questions remain unanswered. It is an impressive site to visit and a reminder of the ingenuity of the ancient Egyptians.

Temple of Philae

Philae Temple is an ancient temple complex located on the island of Agilika in the Nile River, downstream of the Aswan Dam and Lake Nasser in Egypt. It was originally built during the reign of Ptolemy II (Egypt's Greco-Roman Period) and dedicated to the Egyptian gods Isis, Osiris, and Horus. The temple walls contain scenes from Egyptian mythology, including Isis bringing Osiris back to life, giving birth to Horus, and mummifying Osiris after his death. The temple complex also includes small temples or shrines dedicated to other Egyptian deities, such as Imhotep, Hathor, Osiris, Horus, and Nephthys. The obelisks in front of the temple were removed in 1918 and now stand in a garden in Dorset, England. In the 1960s, the temple was in danger of being submerged with the construction of the Aswan dam, so the Egyptian government and UNESCO worked together to pump the area dry and relocate the entire temple to its current location.
