The heart of Rome’s most characteristic district, Trastevere, is located in the basement of an 18th-century building, the Wine Cellar Fabullus, a Rome wine cellar. This authentic underground cellar, obtained from the careful and skillful recovery of a Roman cistern from the 1st century AD, is furnished with antique objects and furniture that make this place unique. “Life is too short to drink mediocre wines.” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe Original Roman marble, ancient artifacts, furniture, and things related to the production of wine decorate the walls and wooden shelves, making this place welcoming and pleasant. Over the years, this wine cellar in Rome has become a place for tastings of excellent products for lovers of authentic products and faithful to the ancient tradition of Italian food and wine culture.
In the 19th century, Stendhal described it as"the most beautiful relic of ancient Rome, a well-preserved temple that appears as the Romans must have seen it in their times." A source of inspiration for the greatest architects of all ages, its beauty, the harmony of the lines, and the perfect geometries have always struck people, both in the past and the present. The story of one of the best-preserved examples of Roman monumental architecture began in 27 BC when Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa commissioned a temple in this area dedicated to"all the gods." The present building, however, is the result of Hadrian's radical reconstruction. The large circular cell is surrounded by thick masonry walls and eight large pylons on which the weight of the characteristic hemispherical concrete dome, larger than that of St. Peter's Basilica, is distributed. What is most surprising is its size: the height of the building is equal to the dome's diameter, just over 43 meters.
