Allowing previous attempts by European nations, Chile decided to take possession of Magellan in 1843. To achieve this, it built and commissioned a small sailing ship known as the Ancud Schooner, which was commanded by British sailor John Williams and could carry a crew of 21 people as well as cargo.
The highlight of this tour is to take you beyond what you might expect by introducing you to the local culture of Chile's southernmost city. The statue of Magallanes in the central square of Punta Arenas, the legend about the toe of the native in the statue, the mansion of Sara Brauns and the magnates of the Patagonian past. All of this is seen on the boardwalk facing the sea with the local history of the Strait of Magellan, the geology of the area, the old pier with hundreds of rocks, streets lined with important local monuments.
