The city of Amsterdam took its name from the Amstel river. The name of the city used to Amstelredam and that changed to Amsterdam after it was too difficult to pronounce for the British.
The Blauwbrug (Blue bridge) is an historic bridge in Amsterdam, over the river Amstel. It connects the Rembrandtplein area with the Waterlooplein area. The bridge owes its name to a wooden "blue bridge" that was there from around 1600 but no longer exists and which was painted the characteristic blue of the Dutch flag. It was the first bridge thatcarries a road which is also used by the tramway.
The mayor’s house is located on the Herengracht 502. It was built in 1672 and became the mayor’s house in 1927. Our current mayor is Femke Halsema.
