  • Taiwan's Governor's Office stipulated the opium monopoly in 1897. In 1899, the Monopoly Bureau's Taipei Nanmen Factory was built. It was an important production base for the manufacture and testing of camphor and opium. It was renamed Nanmen Factory in 1901 and Taipei in 1931. Nanmen Factory is the only public camphor processing factory in Taiwan during the Japanese era. Now only the camphor warehouse (hereinafter referred to as the Red Building), the article warehouse (hereinafter referred to as the Little White House), the 400-stone water tank and a section of the red brick wall of the factory remain. In 1998, the Nanmen Factory was designated as a National Historic Site by the Ministry of the Interior. The historic site was restored and reused as an exhibition hall
