Great Meteoron Monastery

Visitors to the Great Meteoron Monastery, the largest and oldest monastery in Meteora, will step back in time as they explore its historic halls, stunning frescoes, and fascinating museum. Perched atop a towering rock formation, this monastery offers breathtaking panoramic views of Meteora’s unique landscape. Visitors to Varlaam Monastery, the second-largest monastery in Meteora, will marvel at its impressive architecture, exquisite frescoes, and serene atmosphere. Perched atop a dramatic rock formation, the monastery offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Inside, travelers will explore the main church (katholikon), adorned with stunning 16th-century frescoes, visit the old refectory now serving as a museum, and see the massive wooden barrel used for water storage.
