On this day tour, you will get lost in the Bulgarian history and nature – literally! We are heading to one of the most beautiful and enchanting mountains – the Rhodope Mountains. Ancient customs and traditions still echo back through the fields of this picturesque landscape. Stroll around the vast valley of the Thracian Kings and visit one of the oldest Roman/Christian religion settlements in Bulgaria. Admire the beautiful frescoes on its ceiling. Despite their scarcity, your guide, who is an art historian herself, will reveal some of the most intriguing artistic practices of early Christian times. Try some of the best wine selection of the region and learn about Bulgarian winemaking techniques. Following a typical lunch which our lovely hosts will prepare from their self-grown products, we will continue to the historical town of Batak where you will learn more about one of the most dramatic moments in Bulgarian history. The tour ends on the shore of the beautiful lake Tsigov Chark.

(Subject to Option Inclusions)Early in the morning, we will head to the famous wine valley of Plovdiv where you will stop by the unique Red Church – a newly restored late Roman, early Christian basilica which represents a rare example of solid brick construction from the 5th – 6th century AD. Under the influence of this medieval experience, we will arrive at a well-known winery cellar where you will taste an exclusive selection of local wines - one of the best productions from the valley of the Thracian kings. The wine could be accompanied by a special lunch (to be paid at the spot) prepared from the sunkissed ingredients of long-kept Bulgarian culinary traditions. After this, we continue to the symbolic town of Batak where your professional guide will introduce you to one of the most dramatic moments in Bulgarian history. We will stop by the ossuary church which becomes a symbol of heroism for Bulgarian people during the Uprisings against the Ottomans in 1876. Following such a historical journey in time, we will head to a nearby village where you will enjoy your afternoon tea/coffee break on the shore of the beautiful lake Tsigov Chark. Return to Plovdiv.
