Devprayag

Devprayag Sangam in Devprayag, India, is a profoundly sacred site where the two holy rivers, Bhagirathi and Alaknanda, merge to form the Ganges, one of the most revered rivers in Hinduism. The confluence is considered the official starting point of the Ganga and holds immense religious and mythological significance. According to Hindu mythology, King Bhagirath performed intense penance to bring the heavenly Ganges to Earth to purify the ashes of his ancestors. The Bhagirathi River is regarded as the celestial descent of the Ganga, while the Alaknanda, originating near Badrinath, symbolizes devotion and penance. The name "Devprayag" means "Godly Confluence," reflecting its sacred status.
