Villa Borghese is the most beautiful public park in Rome. It is heart-shaped and it is located right by the city center. For this reason, it is often referred to as the green heart of Rome.

Villa Borghese was built at the behest of one of the major protagonists of the cultural life of the early seventeenth century: Cardinal Scipione Borghese. He was the favorite nephew of Pope Paul V Borghese, who put to use his power to provide his relatives, especially his nephew, with protection and wealth. The Galleria Borghese Museum houses and exhibits a collection of sculptures, bas-reliefs and ancient mosaics, as well as paintings and sculptures from the 15th to the 19th century. Among the masterpieces of the collection, whose first and most important nucleus dates back to the collection of Cardinal Scipione there are works by Caravaggio, Raphael, Titian, Correggio, Antonello da Messina, Giovanni Bellini and sculptures by Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Canova.
