The tour starts very early at approximately 06:00a. We will go to the Cajas National Park to the sector of Llaviuco (height 3100 meters) which is considered the best place in the National Park for bird watching. This high montane forest is in excellent state of conservation, allowing to easily find very striking species such as the Andean Toucan Pechigris (Andigena hypoglauca), the Andean Pava (Penelope montagnii) the Masked Trogon (Trogon personatus), the Turquoise Magpie (Cyanolyca turcosa) and several species of colourful tangaras and some waterfowl. The twelve species of hummingbirds recorded in the area are a sample of the high diversity reached by this group of birds in mountain ecosystems, and among these the hummingbird stands out Frentiestrella Arcoiris (Coeligena irie), the Rayito Brillante (Anglaeactis cupripennis) and the Pico Espada. Among the birds of the PN Cajas, the most important species is the Gorjivioleta (Metallura baroni) This is an endemic species of the Cajas, which is not found anywhere in the World. Then we will go to other areas of the Park for observation.
