The Puerta del Sol (Spanish for “Gate of the Sun”) is a Madrid public square, one of the best known and busiest places in the city. This is the centre (Km 0) of the radial network of Spanish roads. The square also contains the famous clock whose bells mark the traditional eating of the Twelve Grapes and the beginning of a new year. The New Year’s celebration has been broadcast live on national television since 31 December 1962.

Cava Baja is one of Madrid’s most iconic and atmospheric streets, nestled in the heart of the vibrant La Latina neighborhood. Its name, meaning "Lower Ditch," dates back to medieval times when the street followed the line of a defensive trench just outside the city walls. Over the centuries, Cava Baja evolved into a bustling thoroughfare, as it became the main arrival point for traders, muleteers, and travelers entering Madrid from other major Castilian cities. Many historic inns, or posadas, were established here to host these guests—some of which, like Posada del Dragón and Posada de la Villa, still exist and retain traces of centuries-old charm.
