In 1921 with the establishment of the Diocese of Antsirabe, Monsignor François Dantin ordered that a new church would be built, as the previous one was too small for the growing Catholic population in Madagascar. Dantin also instructed that this church would be the cathedral for the new diocese.

An art gallery specializing in fine arts located in Antsirabe Madagascar exhibits and sells works of art: paintings, sculptures, handicrafts, decorative objects from Madagascar, Malagasy style, and various gone decorations made in Madagascar.

This monument to the 18 tribes of Madagascar dominates one end of the big rectangular square on Antsirabe’s Grande Avenue. A big, circular stone tablet on the left features the word, Fahaleovantera, which means independence, and the first two measures of Madagascar’s national anthem. The stone tower next to that has the name of each tribe. The quality is carved at the top of the stone tower, with a zebu head appearing closer to the base.
