We'll explore the history of Terezin town by visiting the most interesting places. Btw. I'm the accredited official guide.

The Main Fortress - history of the unique military fortress from the 18th century (most groups skip this part). The Ghetto Museum - the ghetto held jews from many countries. The Magdeburg Barracks - former army barracks, today an exhibition on ghetto-era culture. The loft - place where people lived during the ghetto period. The synagogue - an improvised place to pray. The Small Fortress - it was used as a prison. Terezin Memorial - a National Cemetery. The crematorium - built by prisoners in 1942.

All you need are:

  • some snacks (lunch is not included),
  • comfortable shoes (sidewalks can be slippery)

I'll handle all the other arrangements. We will spend approximately 4-4,5 hours in Terezín and 2 hours travelling. Please be prepared to walk at least 3 miles.

We may visit the sites in a different order.

Itinerary

Hlavni Pevnost (Main Fortress)

We'll start our tour at a “Retranchement 5” building where is the visitors center. I will explain the history of this unique 18th century military fortress. We'll climb its walls and find hidden spots that most groups miss because they're off the beaten track.

Muzeum Ghetta

The Ghetto Museum is located in the former school building in the very centre of Terezin. In the ground floor there is a Memorial hall of children. The first floor exhibition covers the inception of the persecution of Protectorate Jews, their life in the ghetto and extermination camps. Please be prepared that the exhibition may cause very strong emotions.

Magdeburska Kasarna (Magdeburg Barracks)

Former army barracks were used as a seat of Jewish self-goverment during the WWII. There is a Replica of a prison dormitory from the ghetto period. The exhibitions on the cultural activities of involuntary inhabitants of the ghetto continue the displays at the Ghetto Museum. Tipics: themes: music, paintings, literature, theatre. You already have a combined ticket from previous museum.
