The island has a perimeter of about 30 km, with numerous inlets and shrines along its coast. Seven of these inlets house shrines known collectively as the Nanaura-jinja Shrines (Seven Shrines). The tradition of circumnavigating the island by boat to visit these shrines is called the Nanaura meguri (Seven Shrine Pilgrimage), a practice dating back to Oda Nobunaga’s time. The route is celebrated in the song "Aki no Miyajima mawareba shichi-ri, Ura wa nanaura nana Ebisu (meaning, Miyajima Island has seven inlets along its 7 ri (about 27 km) long coastline, each dedicated to a specific deity.)" for its blessings. On this cruise, you will see the grand shrine gate of the World Heritage Itsukushima-jinja Shrine and several historical shrines. Experience the history of Miyajima from the sea.
