When you land at an airport in Japan, you may be surprised to see letters you have never seen before. Japan's writing culture is very different from that of alphabet-using countries. Japanese is a rare language that uses a mixture of three different characters. And, newspapers and books are written vertically. Let's experience this unique Japanese writing culture. Writing characters with a brush and black ink on white paper is both an art and a meditative experience. All calligraphy tools are provided. You just come empty handed. Calm your mind, concentrate on writing and finish your own work. This experience will surely give you a taste of Japan.
1. The instructor will give a demonstration. 2. An explanation about Japanese characters and calligraphy. 3. Make black ink with an ink-stick and water. 4. Practice basic writing with correct posture. 5. Choose a kanji you want to write (your name, favorite word, animal, etc.). 6. The instructor will write a sample for each person. 7. Practice writing kanji on hanshi which is a paper for practicing 8. Make a final work. (You can try three times on the paper board) 9. Put a red stamp on your final work. 10. Staff will share the photos and videos they have taken. (By airdrop or email)
