Your journey begins at 8:00 AM with a pick-up from your Cusco hotel. We’ll ascend through the mountains, passing the iconic Saqsaywaman, before descending 450 meters to the enchanting Sacred Valley. Here, the sacred Urubamba River winds through picturesque landscapes, leading us to the charming village of Pisac. Our first stop is Pisac’s vibrant traditional market, a haven of local artistry and colorful souvenirs – perfect for finding a special keepsake. After about 30 minutes, we’ll ascend to the Pisac archaeological site, perched majestically above the valley. Explore these fascinating ruins with a guided tour, uncovering ancient Inca structures, ceremonial altars, intricate carvings, and the famed Intihuatana stone. The breathtaking views of the valley below are unforgettable. Spend around 90 minutes here, or opt to enjoy more time in the market and rejoin the group later. After a scenic drive, we’ll pause in the charming town of Urubamba for a lunch break (about 45 minutes, lunch not included), surrounded by the stunning backdrop of the Sacred Valley. Next, we’ll journey to Ollantaytambo, once the royal estate of the great Inca emperor Pachacuti. This ancient town is a masterpiece of Inca engineering and design, blending ceremonial, agricultural, and architectural wonders. During our hour-long exploration, marvel at the awe-inspiring Temple of the Sun, where colossal stones were impeccably carved and fitted by skilled Inca stonemasons. Wander through agricultural terraces ingeniously designed to create microclimates, and discover intricate stone water fountains and channels that highlight the ingenuity of Inca hydro-engineering. Ollantaytambo is not just a historic site; it’s a living testament to the brilliance of Inca civilization and a place that will leave you in awe.
Our final stop takes us to the enchanting village of Chinchero, where history and culture come alive. Here, we’ll spend about 30 minutes exploring the captivating main plaza, home to a massive Inca stone wall adorned with ten perfectly crafted trapezoidal niches. The highlight is Chinchero’s beautiful colonial church, built in the early 17th century atop the remains of an ancient Inca palace. Inside, the walls bloom with intricate floral and religious designs, a stunning fusion of Andean and Spanish artistry. As we wander through Chinchero, you’ll also notice its vibrant traditions. Locals proudly wear colorful attire that reflects a unique blend of indigenous and Spanish influences. All of this is framed by breathtaking views of the snow-capped peaks of Chicón and Veronica, making Chinchero an unforgettable finale to our journey through the Sacred Valley. Finally, it will be time to head back to Cusco, where we’ll drop you off at your hotel
