Wat Chamthewi Temple (Wat Ku Kut)
This tour takes us to the small historic town of Lamphun to see life in a traditional, provincial life off the beaten tourist tracks. Located about 30 kilometres south of Chiang Mai, Lamphun was founded by the rulers of the Mon Kingdom of Haripoonchai, who’s first Queen was the legendary Chamadevi. Contrary to other regions, Lamphun has managed to retain its traditional charms over the years and is home to many ancient temples. During this half-day tour, we visit the oldest and one of the oldest temples in the region – the Wat Phrathat Haripoonchai.
Wat Phra That Hariphunchai
The Wat Haripoonchai is home of the world’s largest bronze gong, this Wat (means Temple) was built on the site of Queen Chama Thewi’s palace in 1044 AD. Not only Buddhist influences but as well as post-Dvarabvati (Indian) architecture can be found in this in the 1930s renovated temple. The original was constructed during the reign of King Arthitayarat, some 800 years ago. The 46- meter high Chedi with a nine-tier umbrella, made out of 6,5-kilo pure gold, the result of the restoration work in 1443 by a king of Chiang Mai surrounds the main characteristics of the temple. It has been long regarded as a major place of worship for the complete Thai nation, as the ashes of the Queen are interred in the main stupa of the Wat. The complex also houses a school for Buddhist monks, depending time by time if foreign visitors are allowed. Out of security reasons, the temple complex closes at 5 pm.The trip drive along the old Lampoon-Chiang Mai Road before we arrive back at your hotel in Chiang Mai

- Transfers are only operated within the downtown Chiang Mai areas and restricted to main hotels only. Regions outside the central business district such as Mae Rim, Hang Dong, Doi Saket, Mae Taeng and Chiang Mai International Airport are excluded and supplementary charges apply.
