Via dei Fori Imperiali

Start your experience through the Ancient Rome with an enjoyable walking across Imperial Fora. It is a series of monumental fora (public squares), constructed in Rome over about one and half centuries, which were the heart of the late Roman Republic and the Roman Empire. Discover with this external visit the main ruins of the greatness of Rome from the early disruption of the Republic till the Imperial Age.

Colonna Traiana

Built in 113 AD to celebrate the deeds of Emperor Trajan in Dacia, the Trajan Column was the first cochlid column - with decorations that spiral along the shaft - ever erected. The Column, designed by the architect Apollodorus of Damascus on the initiative of Trajan himself, reaches almost 40 meters including the base and indicates the original height of the Quirinal saddle, cut to create Trajan's Forum of which the column is the only monument that has come down to us practically intact. Trajan's Column is made up of 17 colossal rocks - cylindrical shaped elements - monolithic, with a diameter of almost 4 metres. These spirally wrap the column with 23 turns of marvelous reliefs: almost 200 meters of precious white marble that could be unrolled like a film. A film that recounts the victorious military campaigns conducted by Trajan against the Dacians to secure the borders of the Empire on the Danube. Inside there is a spiral staircase of 185 steps that leads to the top. .
