A combo trip you can't miss!
There is no better combo than soaking in the Roman ruins of Pula and then enjoying the beauty and charm of the medieval streets in Rovinj! You can't skip these two when visiting Istria and although very different, each has its own past and personality.
Pula - the largest town in Istria with a long history, written all over its architectural remains and monuments. Rovinj - the most photogenic town in Croatia, small but with a big soul, ready to romance you in its narrow streets. These two share the Istrian lifestyle and a long turbulent history. Each needs to be explored at its own pace and I can't wait to introduce them to you!
After the tour, I guarantee you'll know how these cities were built from the ground up but also where to grab a traditional bite or refreshment without my help!
Pickup included
Guided tour of the only remaining Roman amphitheatre to have two out of four side towers and the outer walls entirely preserved. We'll also visit the underground area with a small archeological collection and the copy of the oldest travel map (Peutingerian map 4.st.A.D.) Time for rest rooms and souvenirs. Guiding and admission ticket to the amphiteatre are included.
Besides the amphiteatre, Pula also had a Roman theatre and this double arched gate, also known as Porta Gemina, was its entrance. The gate is a big monumental stone structure still standing today after it was built in the 3rd century. We will make a short photo stop here.
The colony of Pula used to have twelve entrance gates and this is the only remaing and one of the oldest, built back in the 1st century. It's an Inscribed stone archway with a depiction of Hercules in between 2 medieval towers.
