Gombori Pass is a mountain pass located in the eastern part of Georgia and is situated at an altitude of 1,990 meters above sea level. As you travel from Tbilisi to Telavi, you will be taken through the scenic Gombori Pass which offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountain range. During the winter months, the pass is usually covered in snow, which adds to the charm and makes for a stunning view. You will also have the opportunity to stop along the way and take in the views, breathe in the fresh mountain air, and capture some amazing photos. The pass is home to a variety of wildlife and is a popular destination for bird watchers, with over 150 species of birds being recorded in the area. If you're lucky, you might even spot some wild animals. The journey through the Gombori Pass is a highlight of any trip to Georgia, offering stunning landscapes and a glimpse into the country's rich history and culture.
The Telavi Farmer's Market is a must-see for anyone visiting the Kakheti region. It's a vibrant, bustling market that offers a real glimpse into local life. From fresh produce to homemade cheeses and sweets, you'll find a variety of local specialities here. Strolling around the market, you'll be struck by the colourful displays of fruits and vegetables, some of which you might not have seen before. Don't be afraid to ask the vendors for samples or recommendations – they're always happy to help you try something new. As you explore the market, you'll also find a range of local sweets, including Churchkhela, a traditional Georgian candy made from grape must and nuts, and Tklapi, a fruit leather made from pressed fruit that's perfect for snacking on the go. In addition to food, the market also offers a selection of handicrafts and souvenirs, such as handmade carpets and pottery. This is a great place to pick up a unique memento of your trip to Georgia.
Marani Milorauli is a winery located in the heart of Telavi, Kakheti - the primary winemaking region of Georgia. The winery has a rich family tradition that dates back to the 1930s but has recently been given a new life, producing 7,000 bottles of wine each year. Guests can visit the family hotel located close to the winery, where they can learn about the traditional wine production techniques that are still used today. They will also have the opportunity to taste Milorauli's wines and order a delicious dinner. In 2019, the company acquired a 10-hectare land in the Kakhuri Mtsvane microzone to cultivate different grape species, including Mtsvane, Kisi, Khikhvi, Rkatsiteli, Saperavi, Aleksandrouli, Syrah, Montepulciano, and Tempranillo. This new land will expand the variety of wines produced by the winery in the future. Note that the winery may be changed for operational reasons, but you can rest assured that you'll be visiting a top-notch private winery.
