The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities—widely known as the Egyptian Museum or Cairo Museum—is situated in the heart of Cairo and is home to one of the most significant collections of ancient Egyptian artifacts in the world. Housing approximately 120,000 objects, the museum displays a large selection to the public, while many other pieces remain in storage. The museum building, designed and completed in 1901 by the Italian architectural firm Garozzo-Zaffarani, stands as one of the most prominent and spacious museums in the region. As of March 2019, it continues to welcome visitors, though it is set to be succeeded by the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza, which was initially slated to open in 2020.
The Giza Pyramid Complex, also referred to as the Giza Necropolis, is located on the Giza Plateau in Egypt and is home to some of the most iconic structures of ancient Egypt. This remarkable site includes the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure—each with their own accompanying complexes—as well as the famed Great Sphinx of Giza. These awe-inspiring monuments were constructed during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom. In addition to the pyramids, the complex features several ancient burial grounds and the remnants of a village that once accommodated the laborers who built these extraordinary architectural achievements.
