Koh Ker Temple
Koh Ker ( ប្រាសាទកោះកែរ ) an ancient temple complex located in the northwestern part of Cambodia, specifically in the Preah Vihear Province. It served as the capital of the Khmer Empire from 928 to 944 AD during the reign of King Jayavarman IV. The site is known for its unique architecture and historical significance, offering insight into the Khmer civilization's artistic and cultural development. Koh Ker is famous for its sandstone and laterite temples, many of which exhibit a distinct architectural style compared to other Angkorian temples. The main temple, Prasat Thom, is 37 meters tall and known as the Cambodian Pyramid Temple. Koh Ker was a significant religious and political center during the Khmer Empire. It was established by King Jayavarman IV, who moved the capital from Angkor to Koh Ker. The site contains numerous inscriptions that provide important historical data regarding the Khmer civilization.
