Meru National Park is especially associated with Elsa the Lioness and the film Born Free, a 1966 Technicolor British drama film starring Virginia McKenna and Bill Travers as Joy and George Adamson, a real-life couple who raised Elsa, an orphaned lion cub, to adulthood. Meru National Park is the home of many other animals as well, including cheetah, hippo, zebra, giraffe, hartebeest, oryx, oribi, waterbuck, and abundant bird life.Meru National Park is one of the best places in Kenya to see Rhinos in the wilderness. The park is free from tourists congestion and therefore ideal park to see the real virgin vegetation and many wildlife species.
