Wander through Takayama’s “Little Kyoto,” where latticed wooden merchant houses from the 1600s line cobblestone lanes. This living museum showcases traditional sake breweries, craft shops, and Edo-period townhouses, evoking the ambiance of a bygone trading post. The district’s unchanged facades and artisan workshops invite travelers to visualize daily life in a thriving feudal-era commercial hub.

Discover ingenious mountain survival at this open-air museum featuring over 30 steeply thatched gassho-zukuri farmhouses. Visitors explore relocated Edo-era dwellings, learning how villagers adapted to harsh winters through multi-story silk farming and communal living.
