On the second day, you’ll traverse the main ridge, passing by iconic spots such as Negoiu Peak , Romania's second highest mountain, and enjoy panoramic vistas of the surrounding valleys and forests. The final day leads you down into the valleys, allowing you to experience the tranquil beauty of the lower alpine terrain, ending at a charming mountain hut at the base of the mountains. The Transfăgărășan was constructed between 1970 and 1974 during the rule of Nicolae Ceaușescu as a response to the 1968 invasion of Czechoslovakia by the Soviet Union. Ceaușescu wanted to ensure quick military access across the mountains in case of a Soviet invasion.
Bâlea Lake is a glacier lake situated at an altitude of 2,034 m (6,673 ft) in the Făgăraș Mountains, in central Romania, near Cârțișoara, Sibiu County.
