Museu do Vinho e da Vinha de Bucelas

Palacio Nacional de Mafra
is one of Portugal’s most ambitious 18th‑century architectural projects. Commissioned by King João V in 1717 as a symbol of his power and devotion, the complex combines a royal palace, a grand basilica, a monastery, and a library under a single, monumental roof. Built in opulent Baroque style, the palace features twin bell towers flanking a central dome, richly decorated façades, and over 1,200 rooms. Highlights include the Basilica of Mafra, adorned with marble altars and Italian-made sculptures, and the Royal Library, one of Europe’s finest 18th‑century libraries, with its exquisite wood-paneled galleries and priceless manuscript collection.
