Budapest may be Hungary’s most popular tourist destination, but that doesn’t mean the countryside of Budapest has nothing to offer. As time goes by, more and more tourists are heading outside of the Hungarian capital to explore vineyards, beautiful scenery and delicious food. Luckily, there’s one region where you can enjoy all three and more: Lake Balaton, the largest lake in Central Europe. Experience the beauty of Lake Balaton on a 1-hour boat cruise and enjoy panoramic views of the picturesque Tihany Peninsula. Not only is this a summer retreat for many locals and fellow Europeans, it’s also a great place to experience Hungarian hospitality and immerse yourself in rural life away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Balaton isn’t just about food, it’s also home to some of Hungary’s oldest buildings, dating back to the early Middle Ages: Tihany Abbey, for example, is a working Benedictine monastery that offers a glimpse into the lives of medieval kings and queens. From Tuesday to Saturday, you can also visit the world-famous Herend Porcelain Manufactory, where the finest porcelain is produced and a great place to buy souvenirs. On our day trip to Balaton, you’ll discover the highlights of this region, taste its wines, and maybe take a dip in the lake!
