The Grote or Sint Bavokerk or Big or Saint Bavo Church is a late medieval church, with a gorgeous Brabantine Gothic architectural style. During the Dutch Reformation, it was one of the churches that was stormed, destroyed and looted, and a priest was killed. Because of this tragic event, much of the interior was damaged, though many local painters have worked on restoring the art.

The museum is partly Pieter Teyler’s home, partly a location that hosts exhibitions and activities. The building brings together objects of art and science under one roof, which was Pieter Teyler’s idea, revolutionary for his time. There is plenty to discover in this collection, to each their own.
