Zagori translates to “behind the mountain area”, includes 46 villages, and numerous stone bridges. In this picturesque area, people used the local stone to build houses, churches and monasteries, cobbled streets and stone-built bridges create an architectural whole which is unique. We visit several villages, unique viewpoints of Vikos gorge, stone bridges, natural pools, the coldest river in Europe (average temp 8-12o C) and a monument dedicated to the brave women of Pindos range
Pickup included
Megalo and Mikro Papigo villages, separated in two districts, are built at the foot of Astraka Mountain. An impressive feature of the landscape is the five imposing “towers” of Astraka Mountain, which rise above the settlements. In Mikro Papigo there is the Information Center of Nature and Culture in Zagori and Taxiarches church
On the way from Megalo to Mikro Papigo there are small natural pools called Rogovos swimming pools.
Papigko bridge was built in 1923 in an idyllic location, with plane trees and crystalline waters of Voidomatis River, the coldest river in Europe (4-10o Celcius), which is in the core of the amazingly Vikos-Aoos National Park
