The Virgin River Gorge, a 15-mile river gorge carved by the Virgin River, opened to Interstate 15 traffic in December 1973 after nine years of construction. It was the most expensive rural interstate project at the time and offers stunning views, often compared to a mini Grand Canyon—though, unlike the Grand Canyon, you can actually drive through it!
