Exploring a Former Communist Prison
An experience for the curious, the bold, and the spirited wanting to explore one of the most famous communist prisons in Romania. We will start off with a quick overview of our older, much more glorious history, explaining how Bucharest developed during the past 500 years and how the city's military fortification system came into existence.
We will then continue with a drive through the Bronx of Bucharest, where you'll witness the communist bedroom dormitories that defined the last 50 years of Romanian social history.
To top everything up, you will get exclusive access to a former communist prison, now a memorial within Bucharest's largest prison, as we delve into the story of Fort 13 Jilava—a 19th-century military fort transformed into a communist detention and execution camp.
Local Hosts turn tourists into locals, and locals into tourists. And since we know that during a tour it's best to stop for refreshments and quick bites, we've included a stop at the end of the day.

We will drive through Bronx of Bucharest which is completely out of the tourist path and a reality check even today, we'll explore an old military fort inside an active prison - outside of Bucharest - used as an extermination camp for those who stood against the regime

- We will meet in Revolution Square by the Memorial. This tour requires a minimum of 2 guests and will be operated in a standard car for up to 3 guests. For larger groups, we can arrange transportation in a 6/7+1 or 15+1 minivan, subject to availability.
