Your day will begin with a visit to Maleme German Military Cemetery. From here one can see far into the deep blue bay of Chania. Towards the west olive orchards line the hillsides down to the winding Tavronitis River. Far beyond one can see the outline of the Monastery of Gonia. The basic idea of the memorial was to design the graveyard for the fallen soldiers according to the four main battlegrounds of Maleme, Chania, Rethymnon, and Heraklion.
Next comes the Lake of Agia, the lake borrows its name from the neighboring village. The image of the artificial lake in the background of the imposing mountains of Chania reminds postcards from other European countries.
Fournes Village, one of the largest “orange villages” in the valley of the Keritis River, is located at the foot of the White Mountains, among endless orange groves and ripe plane trees.
